Multimedia Collection in Limerick Studies
Limerick County Library recently launched their Multimedia website which is available for the public to view in their Limerick Studies Section at Lissenalta House in Dooradoyle, Co. Limerick.
The collection is a vast array of local history items in a range of media types converted to digital form by Interleaf Technology.
Tony Storan of Limerick Studies explains:
"Limerick Studies has recently launched its media archive to the general public. The collection comprises over 300 items and documents life and lifestyles in Limerick during the 20th century. This material previously stored in many different formats including cassette, video, DVD, CDR and PDF files can now be accessed in online formats including PDF and windows media files on Limerick Studies pcs.
As well as addressing the practical issues of access to different formats the new media archive has provided an opportunity to capture data which was previously stored in a more fragile format and in some cases in danger of deterioration. Feedback has been very positive with the sporting clips and the interviews with those who fought in 1916 and the War of Independence proving particularly popular. Limerick County Library hopes to add to the collection on an ongoing basis going forward."
